The most common question at the farm gate, answered. The right size depends on the cut, because bone-in cuts need more weight per person than boneless, and on how seriously your house takes the St Stephen's Day sandwich.
| Guests | Whole bird | Crown | Breast / boned & rolled |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4–6 | 4kg | 2kg+ | 2kg |
| 7–9 | 5kg | 3kg+ | 2–3kg |
| 10–12 | 6–7kg | 4kg+ | 3kg |
| 14–16 | 8–9kg | 5kg+ | 4kg |
| 18–20 | 10kg | 2 crowns | 5kg |
These allowances are generous by design, because in our experience nobody has ever complained about too many leftovers. If you are between sizes, go up.
A 5kg whole bird (minimum serving 7) with a little stretch, or a 6kg for leftovers. A 3kg+ crown serves 7–9. A 3kg+ boned and rolled mixed joint serves 10–12.
Use the farm serving figures on each weight band as the starting point. Whole birds are sold with a minimum serving; crowns and joints list a guest range. Allow a little extra if leftovers matter.
For very large gatherings (14 or more), two smaller birds often cook more evenly and give you four legs and more skin, and they fit in a standard oven.
Yes. Choose farm collection at checkout and select your collection day (21 to 24 December). On 24 December we close at 12pm. Dedicated collection days mean there is no queuing.
